Sony Ericsson G700, G900 & Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson has also launched three new touchscreen mobiles – the G700, G900, and the Windows Mobile-based XPERIA X1.

The G700 is equipped with a 2.4 inch TFT touchscreen display that uses a unique single touch control menu system with a touch-controlled Notes application that allows users to write and draw memos. The 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera has an image stabilizer feature and flash. A secondary camera for video calling is present. It supports Bluetooth with A2DP and USB v2.0.

The Notes feature allows users to save notes on the desktop like a Post-It. Trying to cash in on the iPhone philosophy of on-screen finger control, the G700 allows users to browse the photo album using a fingertip. The G700 has dedicated keys for messaging, Notes, and a key lock on the side.

The G900 includes all the functions of the G700 with the added features of a 5.0 megapixel touch auto-focus camera and a touch photo album with image editor. The 2.4 inch display has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 256K colors. Connectivity-wise the G900 is well-equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB V2.0 and GPRS/EDGE. It’s also 3G-enabled.

The camera has an option that lets you focus by simply touching the relevant screen area. A Multi-Shot option allows users to hold down the camera key and take multiple pictures consecutively. It also uses touch control to scroll through the images taken. Both the G700 and the G900 allow the use of a stylus for navigation and selection. The G700 will launch in Silk Bronze and the G900 will launch in Dark Red and Dark Brown. Both will be available in select markets from Q2 2008.

"Sony Ericsson is delivering touchscreen and

innovative organizer capabilities to a wide audience without compromising on the size or shape of the phone. Both the G700 and G900 have regular keyboards and are no larger than a regular phone,” said Martin Winkler, Director Global Marketing and Head of Multimedia Web at Sony Ericsson.

XPERIA X1
The XPERIA X1 combines a 3-inch clear wide VGA display and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard in a metal finish body. In a first for Sony Ericsson, it comes with Windows Mobile OS. Similar to the iPhone’s v1.1.3 main menu interface, the XPERIA X1 has customizable panels on the desktop that can be rearranged and activated at the touch of a finger. The phone comes equipped with AGPS for road navigation.

“XPERIA represents the first brand that is truly born from within Sony Ericsson. It represents our vision for a premium, energized communication experience,” said Dee Dutta, Head of Marketing, Sony Ericsson. Rikko Sakaguchi, Head of Portfolio and Propositions, Sony Ericsson, added: “Our vision for the XPERIA X1 is to deliver a seamless blend of mobile web communication and multimedia entertainment within a distinctive design.”
